Venus

"A thing of beauty is a joy forever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us..."
from ENDYMION - Keats

I started this site was to display my art work and encourage other artists to do the same. So here it is, this bit has got some general comments on art and you can check out the gallery to see what Kidzje's spare time is wasted on.

Some of my philosophy: I rarely start a work with a really clear "image" of what the final product is going to look like. I begin with a feeling of what I want to create and then stop when I feel I've done enough. It's difficult to describe, but I just know if it "worked" or "didn't work" as the case may be. I rarely like my work for a long time. I guess that's part of being an artist, never being quite satisfied means you're striving for "perfection" as you see it. Hopefully that means you're improving technically as well as maturing.
I have no formal art qualifications, so what I'm doing here is not sanctioned by anyone's "bit of paper". In fact, I was rejected for every art course I've applied for. I now collect the knock-back letters!

About the images here: These images were photographed using an el-cheapo digital camera, so expect some fuzziness. I've tried to sharpen up the images but they are far from perfect. I am getting better at it though, so, bear with me! They are designed to give you an impression of my work. I have saved them as GIFs because, despite what people have told me, and what I have read, I can make them much smaller (sometimes 70% smaller!) than JPEGs and to my eye they look nearly as good. I've limited the number of images per page so you don't have to wait half an hour for them to load!

Art, Shmart!
Art serves no practical purpose
The same could be said about football. A friend of mine refers to "using" his artworks. He means he looks at, appreciates and derives pleasure from the beautiful things he owns. Sounds like he's on to something to me.

"I never draw anything I don't care about."

"What you create should be as dear to you as your own children..."

Make art to please yourself because your art is part of who you are and how you see the world. If other people like it, well that's a bonus. Don't let any fat old no-talent hippies tell you how to draw.
